The National Trust paused all its TikTok ads after AI-generated ads inviting people to become members ran in its name. The charity said an automated feature in TikTok Ads produced the ads in error and that it is working with TikTok on extra safeguards. Harri Brown of agency Antler Social said advertisers can prevent this by making sure the "auto-add newly generated assets during delivery" option is turned off.
TikTok's ad tools can now create new creative for you and add it to live campaigns. The National Trust found out when AI ads it didn't plan for ran in its name, off brand, and drew criticism. It paused everything.
We love AI and use it every day. But AI should work from your brand's rules, not guess them. Your B.R.A.I.N.™ sets how you look, sound and talk, and nothing should go live that hasn't been checked against it.
The fix takes five minutes. An agency quoted in the story points to one setting, auto-add newly generated assets during delivery, and you can see any variations already made from the drop-down on each ad.
