Our take

More than 40 new members have joined SPUR, the Standards for Publisher Usage Rights coalition, including The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Economist, ITV News, The Observer and Which?. SPUR now has 80 members from more than 20 countries. It wants common standards for AI licensing deals, and this month it launched an open-source standard for AI companies to record and report how they use, cite and display publishers' content.

Publishers are organising to get paid by AI companies, and they now want to track every time an AI tool pulls in, cites or shows their journalism. That tells you where AI answers get their trust from: credible newsrooms.

For a Shopify brand, this makes earned coverage in a named publication worth more, not less. A mention in Which? or a national title is the kind of source AI tools lean on and, increasingly, pay for. A press release on your own blog is not.

We treat PR as part of AI search now. We pick the titles AI tools already cite in your category, and we make sure every journalist gets the same story your B.R.A.I.N.™ holds, so the facts AI repeats about you are the right ones.
