Meta has banned ads from ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, on its apps in the US, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam. The ban also covers any other advertiser whose Meta ads link to TikTok or other ByteDance properties in those markets, and Meta said it applies immediately. Campaign says brands and agencies running Meta ads to promote TikTok accounts, creator partnerships or app downloads now need to review them.
Meta just closed the door between its ads and TikTok in seven markets, including the US. If you use Facebook or Instagram ads to send people to your TikTok profile, a TikTok Live or a creator's TikTok video, those ads are now off limits there.
Most Shopify brands won't feel this, because their Meta ads point at their own site. The ones who will are brands that use Meta to feed their TikTok Shop or grow a TikTok following. That traffic now has to come from somewhere else.
We'd treat this as a nudge to send every Meta click to your own website, where you own the data and the customer. Let TikTok grow TikTok: GMV Max, affiliates and a creator army do that job better anyway.
