Our take

Google's October Demand Gen drop brings no new ad formats. It's all about data. Google says advertisers who use Google tag gateway see, on average, over 20% more conversions in Demand Gen campaigns, based on its own internal data from June 2026. Tag gateway serves your Google tags from your own domain, so fewer of them get blocked.

Google also says a new Data Strength Uplift metric is launching in Google Ads to show the conversion gains your data setup drives. Insurance platform The Zebra reported a 16% increase in conversion volume and a 19% increase in conversion value after working on its data strength.

Treat the 20% as Google's own number, not a promise. But the direction is right. Automated bidding learns from the conversions it can see, so if your tags miss sales, Google undervalues your best customers. A solid data layer is the dull job that makes every other part of your Google account work harder.
