Shopify released Shop MCP, a single connection that any AI agent or app can plug into. Through it, an agent can search Shopify Catalog, which covers over 1 billion products, build a cart and finish a Shop Pay checkout once the shopper confirms the total and payment method.
For a Shopify brand, this is a new shop window you don't run. Shopify says orders placed through an agent show up in your admin like any other order. Two weeks earlier, Shopify also let browser agents work through your existing checkout, with no setup from you. The direction is clear: agents are becoming customers.
Shopify wrote the post for developers, so it says nothing about fees or opt-ins for merchants. What we'd do now is make sure agents get the right facts. If your titles, variants and descriptions are messy, the agent picks someone else.
