Our take

Shopify now shares your compare-at price with AI shopping agents through Shopify Catalog, so agents can see when a product is marked down. Before this, agents reading Catalog only saw the current price. You control it with a toggle in the Compare-at section of your Shopify admin settings.

Your compare-at price used to be a bit of storefront decoration. Now it's data that AI shopping agents read to decide whether you're running a deal. If an agent tells a shopper you're on sale, it's because your compare-at field said so.

That cuts both ways. Accurate markdowns help you stand out in agent answers. Stale or inflated compare-at prices now travel well beyond your own site, and if you use compare-at for an RRP rather than a real markdown, agents may read it as a discount.

This is the same lesson as Merchant Center: clean product data wins. The brands that keep their catalogue tidy are the ones AI tools describe correctly.
