Shopify has built a new way to design your store. Canvas lays every page out side by side, so you see the whole site at once, then zoom in and change things by clicking or by telling Sidekick what you want. Sidekick now works directly on your theme files and takes screenshots to check its own work. Shopify says Sidekick made more than twenty-five million theme edits in the first half of 2026, so this is where store design is heading.
Shopify is straight about where it stands. It calls Canvas early, says it doesn't replace the existing editor yet, and is rolling it out over the coming days. It hasn't said which plans get it first or whether it costs extra.
The risk isn't the tool, it's the brief. An AI that can redesign your store in minutes will happily make it look like everyone else's. Feed it your brand's look, voice and customer from your B.R.A.I.N.™ and it builds your store, not a template. Your website should tell the same story as your ads and posts, and Canvas makes that faster to do or faster to break.
