Should I switch off Performance Max sourced videos for my Shopify store?
Our take
Google's help page says sourced videos are enabled by default for new Performance Max campaigns, and may have switched on automatically in some existing ones. Sourced videos means Google's AI crawls videos from sources you approve, such as social platforms, your landing page and your linked YouTube channel, and adds up to 10 to each asset group.
PPC News Feed reports this as a switch from opt-in to opt-out. Google says it is rolling out in stages with no date, and the UK help page hasn't caught up yet. Because sources need approving, it is unclear whether any videos run before you approve one.
My read: Google gets more video to show without waiting for you to upload it, and you get less say over which clips stand for your brand. Check the setting, then decide on purpose.
Do this this week
Open each Performance Max asset group and look for Sourced videos under Asset optimization.
Click Manage sources and remove any source you wouldn't want your brand judged on.
Switch sourced videos off wherever you haven't approved the clips that could run.
Note which campaigns you changed in your Black Friday plan, so a shift in results has a reason.
